104th Fighter Group ANG Barnes MAP, Westfield, Massachusetts A-10A 'MA' 131st Fighter Squadron

The 131st FS is the group's operational unit, and has flown the A-10A since July 1979. The unit formed in February 1947 as the 131st Fighter Squadron at Barnes Field with the P-47N, and changed to the F-51H in November 1951. The unit converted to the F-94A/B and was redesignated the 131st FIS in July 1954, changing to a Tactical Fighter Squadron in 1958 when it received the F-86H. The unit was mobilized for active duty in October 1961, with assignment to Phalsbourg AB, France until August 1962. It joined the 104th TFG in October 1962, and converted to the F-84F in March 1964 and the F-100D in June 1971.
